illumina sequencing machine — The Illumina MiSeq i100 Plus is primarily used for whole genome sequencing and amplicon sequencing.

Research conducted in the Center of Excellence in Microbiome Sciences benefits from a broad range of laboratory and computational equipment available on our campus and in individual faculty laboratories. Some examples include a Panorama High Resolution Stable Isotope Mass Spectrometer that is being used to understand the role of wetland microbiomes methane cycling in the atmosphere, and a Symcell calScreener microcalorimeter used to explore the microbial biodegradation of environmental contaminants such as plastics, tire-wear compounds, and others. The Advanced Genomic Technologies Core together with several Illumina MiSeq devices, provide our researchers with DNA and RNA sequencing capabilities. Computational support is provided by the campus Zaratan cluster as well as UMIACS' high-performance computing infrastructure.
